Our Story

A quiet sanctuary of rest, stillness and renewal — a place where God meets you where you are.

Vision Behind the Retreat

An Actual Vision

Years before the retreat took shape, a dream had already been placed on the owner’s heart. When the property was purchased and the question became how this retreat should be structured, there came a vivid vision of a staircase to heaven — a reminder of Jacob’s ladder and a deep sense that this would be a place where God would meet people exactly where they are.

As the vision became clearer, two simple truths kept returning: “less is best” and “He would do the work.” The Healing Retreat was therefore never intended to be a place of programmes, pressure or expectations. It is a place to come on your own, disconnect from the troubles of the outside world, recharge and reconnect with your inner being while surrounded by the beauty of creation and the goodness of God.

Our dedicated team’s purpose is simple: to make sure your practical needs are met so that you have the freedom and space to rest.

Less Is Best

A Place With No Programme and No Expectations

Come on your own. Step away from the noise of the outside world. Rest in the beauty of creation, reconnect with your inner being and allow each day to unfold without a timetable to follow.

A Beautiful Blend of Luxury and Nature

The House

An old colonial-style home with a wrap-around balcony, marble floors and beautifully furnished rooms, the retreat combines character with considered luxury finishes.

Each en-suite bedroom opens onto its own private balcony or outdoor space. With a maximum of eight guests, the house offers a rare balance between complete privacy and gentle social connection when you choose it.

The Grounds

Nature in Every Direction

Lush subtropical gardens overlook the ocean, with prolific birdlife and ever-changing views across the horizon. Dolphins are often seen offshore and whales pass the coastline during the winter season.

There are many private places to sit quietly, as well as different decks, a dedicated massage deck, an ocean-facing hot tub, a garden sauna close to the lap pool, beautiful pergolas and a firepit.

The House of Silence

Privacy, Stillness and Gentle Connection

House of Silence

The house is intentionally quiet. Guests share the home with other solo travellers who are also seeking solitude and rest.

Connection Zones

For light conversation, fellowship or a shared coffee, connect at the large upstairs dining table or the pergola dining table near the pool.

Dining Your Way

Choose communal dining in one of the connection zones or ask for your meal to be served privately on your verandah or in your bedroom.

Quiet by Design

Outside the designated connection areas, please keep noise to a minimum and bring headphones for personal audio.

Your Sanctuary

Your Room. Your Private Haven.

Your en-suite room is your absolute private haven, with air conditioning, luxury linen and a desk. Staff enter only at designated service times, which can be coordinated with the house manager.

Meals may be enjoyed communally at the upstairs dining table or the pergola dining table near the pool, or privately at your own dining table on the verandah or in your bedroom.

Our Location

Westbrook, KZN

On the KwaZulu-Natal North Coast, approximately 10 minutes from King Shaka International Airport, The Healing Retreat is set within a secure beach estate and nestled in a beautiful subtropical forest.

Hospitals, fine dining and shopping are within easy reach, yet once you are at the property it feels wonderfully secluded — almost like being on a private island.
